Day 1
Mark’s birthday
Complimentary business class upgrade- yeah babe!
Long and difficult flight with loud , crying, baby in front with parents who were ineffective ie little or no sleep for any of us on the 13 + hour flight. Add a malfunctioning inflight entertainment system which includes the aircraft tracking program- each child asks a minimum of 6 times ( in the 3 hours it is off) “how much longer?”
Arrive in Heathrow to find all bays full after a lockdown procedure due to a security alert- so we are on the ground but nowhere to park. Our darling 3 boys choose this opportunity to nap- not ideal but hey, nobody knows how long till a bay will open up.
Express checkout in Heathrow (thanks again to DH’s business class privileges)- woohoo – we literally walked right up to NO queue and not 1 but 2 SMILING immigration guys- best ever LHR arrival!
Underground to Earls Court and wander back out for dinner/breakfast supplies
Kids energy waning- fast food KFC – but really at the equivalent to 1 am home time, can it ever really be fast enough???
So at the end of a long day and I mean L.O.N.G day- we have been “traveling” for 21 hours- our amazing kids change into jammies, brush teeth and fall into bed. Each sleeps a solid 12 hours and then we are ready for another day………..
Our choice is an apartment rather than a hotel. We have a small kitchen where we can cook some yummy toast and have cereal and juice and plan for the day ahead. A relaxed and easy family start to the day and preferable for us to traipsing to a hotel dining room for buffet style breakfasts.
